About Centenary physical culture club
At Centenary Physical Culture Club (Centenary Physie for short), we proudly teach the BJP Physical Culture curriculum. BJP Physie is the oldest running and most prestigious Physical Culture establishment in Australia. For 128 years, BJP has provided a national platform for Physie clubs to come together to engage in competitions and camaraderie.
“Physie is an elegant way of developing not only fitness but also grace, strength and focus in our girls and women. At BJP, what we are most proud of is how Physie weaves its way throughout the lives of Australian families. Generations of women have discovered lifelong friendships, a true sense of community and a sport for life in Physie.” – Jackie Rawlings, BJP Physical Culture
Empowering Girls for Life
There is an aura of confidence around Physie girls of all ages. Taught to stand tall, with strength and pride, they are team players committed to achieving their goals.
Unlike some ballet and dance studios, Centenary Physical Culture Club focuses on developing the self-esteem of its students. By teaching them to have a positive relationship with their bodies, we help students blossom with confidence and self-assurance.
BJP Physie is passionate about nurturing students’ total wellbeing, in both mind and body. Physie is an accepting and encouraging team sport, where every member is supported and motivated to be the best they can be.
Meet the Teachers at Centenary physie!
Libby started Physie as a ‘tiny-tot’ and has been a member of the Centenary Club for over 30years! Her passion for Physie is now reflected in her love of teaching. Libby has had both individual and team success over her Physie career and now thrives on the success of her students. Libby believes there is a Physie girl in all of us and that the principles that the girls learn in their first ‘tiny-tot’ lesson stay with them for years to come.
“Success comes at all levels and being able to help each individual achieve their own potential and personal goals is amazing. Physie has been a major part of my life for such a long time, I want to share what this incredible sport has to offer all young (and the young at heart) ladies.” Libby
Lauren started physie at the age of 5 and has been a member of Centenary Physie for 12 years. Physie has been a huge part of her life and has given her opportunities and the confidence to succeed in many different avenues. Her dedication and eager attitude has helped her improve and she wants to pass that on to her students. Lauren began as an Assistant Teacher in 2015 and became an Associate Teacher in 2019. Her energetic and cheerful personality are an asset to the clubs teaching team. ‘Physie has helped me grow as a person and I’m glad I can pass on the love and passion I have for the ‘dance sport’ to every girl and lady’. Lauren’s favourite quote for physie/dancing is “Dance with your heart, your feet will follow”.
Testimonials from Students and Family at Centenary physie
The sense of community, family and sisterhood with this club is amazing. The girls are given so much strength and confidence from their teachers.
I do physie because it’s not only good exercise and keeps me moving, but it’s so much fun! We have such a great group of ladies that support each other, and we always have a laugh each lesson. The best part for me is that I get to do something that both my daughters love to do as well. It’s special time that we share, and to know that they are as proud of me as I are of them when they dance is incredible
Centenary Physie is amazing, fun and an exciting sport where you get to dance with your friends and have fantastic teachers to help you learn. I love how I have become stronger and I can challenge myself
I feel so lucky to have found this amazing Physie family after so many years. I did physie as a child and am now doing it with my daughter. I look forward to every class and becoming stronger, happier, healthier and a more empowered person. It is a whole lot of fun where anyone can shine bright
My girls started Physie in 2012 and I was adamant that I would never join myself. I have a gymnastics background and a little bit of ballet from when I was little so I vowed I would never get back into a leotard…..I competed in my first competition last year and I absolutely loved it!! We have an awesome group of ladies and I look forward to class every week.
I have been doing Physie since I was 6 years old. I love absolutely everything about Physie!! One of my best Physie experiences was when I went down to Sydney for repechage. I have made many friends from my club and other clubs too!
